Description

Convolvulus pluricaulis, the morning glory-family Shankhpushpi, is a small, prostrate perennial herb of the family Convolvulaceae, native to the dry, sandy plains and waste places of northern and northwestern India — particularly Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab. The plant produces small, pale blue to white funnel-shaped flowers and sprawls along the ground in open, sun-exposed habitats. One of four botanical species sharing the classical Ayurvedic name Shankhpushpi, Convolvulus pluricaulis is identified as the primary species in the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu and is listed in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. It is documented in the Charaka Samhita as a Medhya Rasayana — one of four classical cognitive herbs — traditionally incorporated in formulations for memory enhancement, cognitive function, and nervous system calm. Commercially cultivated in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
