Description

Giloy Powder — the dried, ground stem of Tinospora cordifolia — is among India’s fastest-growing medicinal plant export commodities, significantly boosted by widespread public awareness campaigns during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Tinospora cordifolia, Guduchi or Giloy, is a large, climbing shrub of the family Menispermaceae, native to the tropical forests, hedgerows, and disturbed habitats of the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka. The pale yellowish-green stem contains alkaloids (berberine, palmatine), diterpenoids (tinosporide), glycosides (cordifolioside A, B), and polysaccharides (arabinogalactan). Documented in the Charaka Samhita as a primary Rasayana herb of the Vayasthapana (age-maintaining) group and as a Tridoshahara herb, Guduchi is incorporated in classical formulations for immune support, liver health, and fever management. Listed in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. One of the top five Indian medicinal plant export items.
