Description

Amla Powder is the dried, ground fruit of Phyllanthus emblica (syn. Emblica officinalis), the Indian gooseberry — a medium-sized deciduous tree of the family Phyllanthaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical forests of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. The sour, pale greenish-yellow fruit is among the most vitamin C-dense foods in nature (450–900 mg per 100g), though the ascorbic acid is stabilised by tannins and polyphenols that resist oxidation during drying. In classical Ayurveda, Amalaki is designated the supreme Rasayana fruit — cited more comprehensively than any other single plant in the Charaka Samhita for its rejuvenative, immune-protective, and blood-purifying properties. As Churna (powder), it is a primary ingredient in the world’s most widely consumed classical Ayurvedic formula — Chyawanprash. Commercially cultivated in Uttar Pradesh (Pratapgarh district) and Rajasthan.
