Description
Psoralea corylifolia, widely known as Babchi or Bakuchi, is a legume native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is highly esteemed in Ayurveda for its therapeutic efficacy in treating chronic skin ailments. The seeds of this plant are rich in psoralens, which act as photosensitizers; when exposed to sunlight, these compounds stimulate the production of melanin, aiding in the treatment of leucoderma (vitiligo) to restore natural skin color.
Beyond its repigmentation properties, Babchi exhibits strong antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory activities. This makes it an effective remedy for treating acne, eczema, and various fungal skin infections. Traditionally, it has also been used to improve vision and alleviate joint inflammation. Because of its potency, the herb is typically administered in oil form or as a paste. However, precise dosage and professional supervision are critical, as overexposure to sunlight while using Babchi can lead to severe skin irritation or burns. Its capacity to cleanse the blood and balance the body’s internal systems makes it a versatile tool in holistic healing and natural skincare.
