Description
Triphala — ‘three fruits’ — is the most extensively documented classical Ayurvedic compound preparation, comprising a standardised blend of three dried fruits in specific proportions: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis — Indian gooseberry), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica). Each fruit is indigenous to the Indian subcontinent’s tropical and subtropical forests, and each has an independent and extensive classical Ayurvedic monograph. Together, Triphala is cited across all the major classical Ayurvedic texts — the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridayam, and Sharangadhara Samhita — as a tridoshic Rasayana preparation capable of addressing imbalances in all three Doshas simultaneously. Incorporated in formulations for digestive health, eye care, immune support, blood purification, and general longevity preparation. The single most globally traded classical Ayurvedic formula, formally listed in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.
