Description

Murdasingi, known mineralogically as litharge or lead monoxide (PbO), is a yellowish-orange mineral substance produced as a by-product of the cupellation process used to refine silver from argentiferous galena ore. In classical Unani pharmacopoeia — particularly the Makhzan-ul-Adwiya — it is classified as a Jama’id (mineral solid) and incorporated into Marham (ointment) preparations after strict Shodhana (purification) and Marana (calcination) processing. Classical Unani texts document its external use in formulations for wound healing, skin conditions, and topical anti-inflammatory applications. In Ayurvedic Rasa Shastra, it is designated as Naga Bhasma precursor material and treated through specific herbal processing sequences. The substance carries significant toxicological risk if improperly handled, and its pharmaceutical use is governed by stringent regulatory oversight.
