Description
Originating from the arid and semi-arid regions of Africa, the Middle East, and India, Euphorbia spinosa is a hardy, thorny shrub characterized by its milky white sap. In Ayurvedic practice, it is highly valued for its orthopedic properties, earning its name ‘Hathjod,’ which literally suggests ‘joining the hand.’ The most common application involves heating the plant’s stem and applying it as a warm poultice over a fracture or dislocation to stimulate callus formation and speed up the recovery process.
Beyond bone healing, the herb possesses significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities, making it effective for treating swelling and joint stiffness. Its antimicrobial properties also allow it to be used in treating certain skin conditions and external wounds. Because the latex can be caustic, it is predominantly used for external applications rather than internal consumption. When integrated into traditional healing regimens, it helps in restoring mobility and reducing the downtime associated with severe musculoskeletal injuries, serving as a natural alternative for managing inflammation and accelerating tissue repair.
